Outpatient Clinic for Thyroid Diseases
The thyroid gland
The thyroid gland is an endocrine gland located in the neck, in front of the trachea. It consists of two lobes that secrete the hormones thyroxine (TO) and triiodothyronine (TO). The thyroid hormones regulate growth and development.
The thyroid gland is important for maintaining balance in the body. If the balance is disturbed, this affects the function of all organ systems — the function of the heart, the brain, the gastrointestinal tract, etc. The metabolism of carbohydrates, lipids, and proteins is disturbed.
Insufficient hormone secretion leads to an underactive thyroid gland (hypothyroidism) if too few hormones are present or an overactive thyroid gland (hyperthyroidism) if too many hormones are present. The thyroid gland can also become enlarged. It can be smooth (diffuse goiter) or nodular (nodular goiter).
A lump in the neck may be noticed by yourself or others. It can feel like a foreign body in the throat, be painful, or even cause choking. Thyroid disorders are more common in women.
Which services does the clinic offer?
The outpatient clinic offers patients a clinical examination, an ultrasound examination of the thyroid gland, an analysis of thyroid hormone levels, thyroid antibodies, and thyroglobulin. Everything is carried out on the same day. You do not need to be fasting for the tests. The appropriate treatment will be initiated as soon as a diagnosis has been made.
When to make an appointment?
There are various symptoms of hyperthyroidism. The most common are fatigue, palpitations, nervousness, sweating or trembling of the hands, excessive weight gain, constipation, uncontrolled weight loss, diarrhea, changes in appetite, poor concentration, forgetfulness, nervousness, insomnia, anxiety, etc. If you experience any of the symptoms described or you have a lump in your neck, it is important that you first consult your doctor who will refer you to our outpatient clinic if necessary.
