  • Choosing another pediatrician for your child – choosing a pediatrician for your child can be done by contacting our clinic by phone during office hours or by sending an e-mail to pediatrija@barsos.si for further instructions on choosing a pediatrician for your child.

COMPULSORY VACCINATIONS IN SLOVENIA

According to the Contagious Diseases Act, vaccination against nine infectious diseases is compulsory in Slovenia. These are:

  • Haemophiles Influenzae type B,
  • Diphtheria,
  • Tetanus,
  • Whooping cough,
  • Polio,
  • Measles,
  • Mumps,
  • Rubella and
  • Hepatitis B.

To be admitted to a kindergarten, whether public or private, children must have received the mumps, measles, and rubella vaccinations. The child will not be admitted to kindergarten if these immunizations are not listed on the pediatrician’s health certificate. This is stipulated in Article 51a of the Contagious Diseases Act. Naturally, kindergarten admission is also open to children who have not been vaccinated for medical reasons or for whom the choice to forego vaccination for medical reasons has not yet been taken.

When enrolling in secondary school or a faculty where they will receive training in the health, education, or social sectors, young people are required to be vaccinated in compliance with the current vaccination and drug protection program. These instructional programs are also available to young people who have not received vaccinations for medical reasons.

FIRST MEDICAL EXAM OF A NEWBORN

At one month of age, the child typically has their first examination at the pediatrician’s office of your choosing. We advise you to schedule an appointment with our nurse as soon as you return home from the maternity hospital. You will be assigned a suitable time for a prenatal examination if there is a medical reason why the baby has to be checked before the first month. At the initial consultation, bring the baby’s health card and your certificate of discharge. The baby is only permitted to use the parents’ health insurance card up until the age of 60 days. After that, they will need their card, which they can get from their covered parent or the Health Insurance Institute (ZZZS).

You can take advantage of your child’s mandatory health insurance, which means that all services of this kind are free, if you sign the declaration of the physician of your choosing at our outpatient clinic and get your health insurance card validated. According to the pricing list provided by the health insurance provider, you will be responsible for paying for the examination yourself if the health insurance card is not confirmed. Children can be examined on a self-pay basis if our facility does not have the pediatrician of their choice.

When you make an appointment, please let our nurse know if your child has a rash. In this instance, enter by the infectious disease entrance, which is situated in the building’s rear atrium.

USEFUL TIPS WHEN YOUR CHILD IS ILL:

  • Remember the basic precautions and take your child’s temperature;
  • If your child has a fever, take off their clothes first;
  • If the temperature rises above 38.5°C, give them a suppository or syrup to bring the temperature down;
  • If you think that your child’s general condition has deteriorated (lying most of the time, inactive, feeling pain, noticing a rash, etc.), call the doctor;
  • It is advisable to take a pen and a notebook and write down instructions during the consultation with the pediatrician.

Koristni nasveti ob pojavu bolezni:
